Why? Because not only do they add some durability to an otherwise squishy class, but their abilities pair great with a ciphers, especially soulblades. It's a very strong class and as another commenter mentioned, pairs great with the kitchen stove, as well as other blunderbusses/ranged weapons you can enchant and build your character around.Īs far as multiclassing goes I would highly recommend either fighter or monk. I played an Ascendant hearth Orlan my first playthrough. So take a look at that for a simple, rough sketch of a character built along the same lines, but for Deadfire. Keep in mind that a lot of the powers function differently in the second game, so you won't be able to just transfer the exact same character.įor an example version of this same character type, but built for Deadfire, I uploaded one of my Deadfire characters to Steam Workshop here: With the right mods ("More Custom AI Conditions" especially) it's relatively straightforward to automate most of your moment to moment gameplay and keep those combos auto-firing. Don't be afraid of mods, Deadfire has great mod integration and a lot of them really ease play. Learn to use the scripting function in the AI. Make sure you have a priest in the party so that you can aim for the Ascended + Brilliant + Salvation of Time combo for perma-Ascension in the middle and late game. (There are a few other good choices, like the Red Hand arquebus, but Thunderous Report is the best opener). (Beguiler is also a good option but the gameplay is a little more complicated to explain).įind the "Kitchen Stove" blunderbuss that has the "Thunderous Report" enchant - you can pick it up fairly early - and use that to alpha-strike at the opening of every fight, so that you instantly Ascend. Max your Perception (it spots secrets in Deadfire) and then pump a mix of dex and might and Int as above and try to do as much as you can while Ascended. Pick Ascendant cipher and play in RTWP mode, not turn-based the build will not function nearly as well in turn-based mode. You probably want to pick Hearth Orlan as your race because the wood elf bonus was changed in the 2nd game Orlans also have a lot of good roleplay potential and unique responses. I put a blurb on this in my poe1 cipher guide: Hopefully it will help me narrow down my choice. Which I'm not very interested in.Īny thoughts or suggestions on ANY cipher build would be appreciated. Who starts with wizard spells and switches to cipher spells as focus builds. Who switches between invocations and cipher spells. I am actually very interested in the less popular options:
